Golden Temple, Sikh Spiritual Center, Rich Culture, Warm Hospitality.

Amritsar, historically known as Ramdaspur and colloquially referred to as Ambarsar, is a city in the northwestern part of India. It is a spiritual center of the Sikh religion and serves as the administrative headquarters of the Amritsar district in the state of Punjab.

The name “Amritsar” literally translates to “Pool of Nectar of Immortality” and it is one of the major cities in the state of Punjab. As the administrative center of the district, it holds significant spiritual and cultural importance for Sikhs.

The city was founded by Guru Ram Das in 1574 on land purchased from the owners of the village of Tung for 700 rupees. Earlier, Guru Ram Das had initiated the construction of the Santokhsar Sarovar near the village of Sultanwind in 1564 (according to some sources, in 1570). However, it could not be completed until 1588. In 1574, Guru Ram Das built his residence and moved to this place. At that time, he was known as Guru Da Chakk. (Later he became known as Chakk Ram Das).

Amritsar is home to the Harmandir Sahib, also known as the “Golden Temple,” which is the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion. This significant Sikh gurdwara attracts more visitors than the Taj Mahal, with over 100,000 visitors on weekdays alone, and is the most popular destination for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) across India. The city also houses the temporal and political authority of Sikhs, Akal Takht, and the Sikh parliament.
